エドガー・アラン・ポー - Wikipedia: "エドガー・アラン・ポー（Edgar Allan Poe、1809年1月19日 - 1849年10月7日）は、アメリカ合衆国ボストン市生まれの小説家・詩人。血液型はAB型。1841年に発表された小説『モルグ街の殺人』には探偵のC・オーギュスト・デュパンが登場し、史上初の推理小説と評価されることが多く、その後の推理小説の発展に寄与した。また、ホラー小説の分野でも一時代を代表する作家とみなされている。さらに作品に科学的事実を取り入れる手法はジュール・ヴェルヌによって注目され、近代SF発展の一因ともなった。詩人としては、自らの詩を解説しながら詩の構築を説いた『詩の原理』で、フランスの詩人、ボードレール、ステファヌ・マラルメなどの象徴派の系譜に多大な影響を与えた。"

類い希なる才能の持ち主。その死に方も尋常じゃなかった。

エドガー・アラン・ポー - Wikipedia: "1849年10月3日、ボルチモア市の路上で重篤状態に陥っているところを発見されたポーは、ワシントン大学病院へ搬送され、10月7日の朝に死亡した。多くの資料は、ポーの最期の言葉は“It's all over now; write Eddy is no more.（もう何もかも終わりだ、墓には「エディはもういない」と刻んでくれ）”であったとしている。別の資料は、“Lord, help my poor soul.（主よ、哀れな魂をお救いください）”であったとしている。ポーの死因については諸説あるが、最期を看取ったJ・E・スノッドグラス医師は、過度の飲酒が直接の死因だと述べている。"

やっぱり酒はほどほどにしておかねばならない。
